Two people killed in collision on Highway 17

Manitoulin OPP investigates a fatal collision on Highway 17 on April 2, at about 14:17, where a passenger vehicle involved a passenger vehicle that sidelined a tractor trailer and later hit another tractor trailer head-on.

The two people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision and one of them has been identified as Patrick Heeley from Massey.

On April 2, 2022 at approximately At 14.17, the Manitoulin Department of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Anishinabek Police Services (APS), Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services and the Sables-Spanish River Fire Department responded to a double lethal engine. Vehicle collision on Highway 17 with two tractor trailers and a passenger vehicle.

The investigation determined that the passenger vehicle was driving in a westerly direction and crossed the center line by ironing the first tractor trailer. The car continued to drive westbound in the eastbound lane and hit another tractor trailer head-on. The two passengers in the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased passenger in the vehicle has been identified as Patrick Heeley, 51, of Massey. The driver’s identity will be released pending an autopsy scheduled to take place at the Center of Forensic Sciences (CFS) at a later date.

The investigation is currently underway with the assistance of OPP’s Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (TIME), Traffic Collision Investigator and a Reconstructionist.
