Newfoundland and Labrador’s COVID-19 hospitalization rate hit a new record high earlier this week, but the health minister assures that the numbers do not overwhelm the system.
On Monday, the province announced that there are 31 people in the hospital due to the virus – the highest number has been since the pandemic started. Of these cases, three are in the intensive care unit.
John Haggie says the numbers are currently hopping around the mid-20s and low 30s, giving no cause for concern in terms of health capacity.
Haggie explains that it is “much smaller” than the number of people hospitalized with the flu during the peak of the disease. He says the need is similar to other forms of respiratory disease. ”
