Unfortunately, Sunday and Monday look chilly, with the possibility that the rain will come back over the weekend, bringing the peak of flowering of the area’s cherry blossoms to an end. Storm Team4 meteorologist Somara Theodore advises planning your trip for a day this week.

Spring is here along with a glorious full bloom of cherry blossoms all over the DC region and the infamous April showers – just ahead of schedule.
A storm system that brought hard winds and rain into several southern states this week has tracked a path to the district and surrounding areas, bringing “beneficial rain” that could be anywhere from half an inch to 2 inches.
Storm Team4 meteorologist Michelle Grossman told the WTOP that this storm could affect the metropolitan area through the early hours of Friday.
“Fortunately, we are not expecting severe weather, but there will be pockets powerful rain and strong winds, too, ”Grossman said.
But what about the worries of the colorful petals lying along the Tidal Basin and National Mall? Grossman said she is not so worried about the pink and white buds.
“The heavy rain and wind gusts can blow some petals of the flower,” Grossman said. “The good news is that flowering tends to be the strongest while it’s in full bloom with many petals, so hopefully we will not see much of a change.”

“Your best chance of seeing the cherry blossoms in all their glory will be Friday before the cold sets in,” Theodore said.
The first drops of rain are expected at noon. The rain will become constant (and briefly heavy) in the evening with 1 ″ to 2 ″ possible over the next 36 hours. Friday will probably be the last best day to see the cherry blossoms before the weekend’s winds rise. @nbcwashington pic.twitter.com/oevAJrveyc
