STATE ISLAND, NY – If you’re looking for a new home, you might want to clear your calendar: Staten Island Open House Weekend, the largest coordinated event of its kind in the borough, will offer potential buyers a close-up and personal insight in some of the properties available in the local real estate market.
Presented by members of the State Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) on Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27, the two-day option will provide homebuyers with something that has been lacking in the real estate market since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic began: A personal opportunity to safely explore homes across the island.
“Rising buyer demand in a market with a relatively sparse stock of homes has created competition among buyers, inspiration for sellers and an early arrival of the annual home buying season this spring,” said Sandy Krueger, CEO of SIBOR, which supplies to Staten Island Multiple Listing Service Inc. (SIMLS), a clearing house through which more than 250 local real estate companies exchange information about properties they have put up for sale. “Open House Weekend provides a convenient opportunity to visit vacant homes and experience the different communities on the island.”
More than two dozen properties are planned to attend the event, with local real estate agents greeting visitors at open houses and providing guidance and insight into the benefits of home ownership in the neighborhood.
“Working with a real estate agent can be a real asset,” Krueger said. “Staten Island Realtors has a unique understanding of what buyers value in our local market, as well as the desires of sellers who may be looking to relocate to a home that better suits their current needs.”
