Sir Peter Blake: A Celebratory Concert review — rock’s tribute for the artist’s 90th | Times2

“You know it’s not my birthday,” said Peter Blake, being interviewed midway through a star-crammed concert to mark his 90th year. “But, er, near enough.”

The pop artist best known for his sleeve for the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in fact turned 90 in June. The gig organiser Paul Weller had wisely waited until after festival season to call on his mates to help to celebrate. Boy, did it pay off.

A mischievous Madness headlined. The Who played a fierce, fabulous set. Chrissie Hynde was a hoot who gave the gig a Christmassy vibe with a sumptuous 2000 Miles. Noel Gallagher raised the roof by performing only Oasis classics. Even Weller started a singalong.
