Search for 4-year-old girl missing with dog in remote area of southern Tasmania

A search is underway in a remote part of the Tasman Peninsula for a missing four-year-old girl.

The girl was last seen in the backyard of a home by Stormlea around 2.30pm, where she was playing with two dogs, one of which is also missing.

Police, SES and the rescue helicopter search the farmland and shrubbery around the Stormlea Road property to find signs of the girl last seen wearing pink leggings, a light yellow top and rubber boots.

Police say more than 20 people are involved in the search, and paramedics are on hand to offer assistance.

A spokesman said that since the girl had been missing for several hours, there were serious concerns for her welfare.

Police have asked the public to stay away from the area so far, saying they had sufficient resources involved in the search, which must be carried out “carefully and systematically”.
