Rangnick was temporarily hired by the club in December, where United wanted a short-term solution to their problems as they seek to appoint a new long-term manager.
Upon his appointment, it was also announced that Rangnick would take on a two-year stint at the club following his departure from Lokomotiv Moscow.
But Rangnick has been busy with his role as temporary boss, while United’s board has yet to decide who will be named at the end of the season.
This means that Rangnick’s future role has not been outlined and that the club is unclear about what capacity he will have next season.
Sky Sports claims that United do not envisage the role being “hands on”, meaning Rangnick is likely to take on a more advisory role.
The German specializes in structuring clubs and works behind the scenes at all levels to ensure that what materializes on the pitch is a winning model.
But after many years of leading Ed Woodward, United are now being guided by Richard Arnold, and he is already looking to hire a replacement to help him with the day-to-day running of the club.
Having wasted around £ 1.2bn on the transfer market since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, United are keen to leverage greater expertise in decision-making and Rangnick is likely to be consulted on the club’s setup, scouting and structure.
