Oscars 2022: Rachel Zegler invited as presenter after not getting a ticket

West Side Story star Rachel Zegler may need to Oscars After all.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the young star to be the presenter at Sunday’s Oscars, Variety has confirmed, after Zegler revealed that she did not receive a ticket to the show this past weekend.

Zegler is currently in London and filming Disneys Snow white re-recording, where she plays the title role. The film is deep in production, and the shooting schedule had to be adjusted to allow Zegler to participate in the Oscars. The academy has not yet officially confirmed Zegler’s participation, as it does with other well-known speakers.

West Side Story is up to seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, Sound, Costume Design, Production Design, Cinematography and Supporting Role, with co-star Ariana DeBose being the highly-favored frontrunner.

On Sunday, Zegler revealed on Instagram that she had not received a ticket to the Oscars and was hoping for a “miracle at the last minute”.

“Idk y’all, I’ve tried it all but it does not seem to be happening. I want to mess around West Side Story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did three years ago. I hope a miracle happens at the last minute and I can celebrate our movie in person, but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I think. Thank you for all the shock and outrage – I’m also disappointed. But it’s okay. So proud of our film, “she wrote.

Many fans and celebrities gathered behind Zegler, urging Oscars and Disney to get her a ticket. The actress who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her West Side Story starring and appearing in Snow white and Shazam: The fury of the gods up next, thanked everyone for the support later on Sunday.
