Famous Middle Eastern bakery, cafe and grocery store Oasis has been a staple of Murrumbeena for almost 25 years.
In 2018, it opened another store that coincided with its 20th anniversary and expanded to Station Street in Fairfield. And now it’s on its way to the Mornington Peninsula.
It opens a Middle Eastern supermarket in Mornington Central Mall on Barkly Street in mid-May.
The center is undergoing a huge renovation and its Target store has been closed down and split up. Oasis will be one of the new key tenants – right next to Woolworths.
Unlike Murrumbeena and Fairfield outlets, Oasis’ third store will strictly be a supermarket – there will be no cafe offer. But at close to 700 square meters, general manager Ely Makool says it will be larger than the Murrumbeena site (including the cafe).
“We want all the things people know and love,” says Makool – homemade bread, cakes, dips, spices and more – “but a much bigger offer when it comes to bakery, meat, everyday items and other products.”
The first Oasis opened in the late 90’s when Emad and Marwa Makool took over what was then a small business. Enthusiastically supported by three generations of their family, it has been transformed into one of the city’s finest Middle Eastern food stores.
Oasis is scheduled to open at 78 Barkly Street, Mornington in mid-May.
