Five years ago this month, the news came that Disney was leading to continue Tron franchise with actor Jared Leto. But since then, not much has happened. A few quotes that might mention a manuscript, a working title, but nothing carved in stone. It would be easy to assume that the project has left the grid intactshelter. However, according to the star, this is not the case.
“I’m a super fan of Tronand we are working hard on Tron with our incredible partners at Disney, ”said Leto Screenrant recently, while promoting his new film, Morbius. “Just a great group of creative people. We’re getting closer. We’re getting closer and closer, and who knows? Something might be [coming] sooner rather than later. “
Which sounds super promising! Until you realize Tron 3 did not start with Jared Leto. Word about the movie leaked first months Before the publication of Tron Legacy back in December 2010. When the film was only a moderate success, work on the sequel buzzed a bit. So, two years later, things officially took off. Until they did not. Then five years passed before the Leto news, and now five years have passed again.
Maybe it’s just the right amount of time though. maybe Tron movies need a decade or three between them so that technology evolves enough to allow each movies to see and feel hypermodern. The biggest problem with this particular time differenceis, however, that Daft Punk, whose music for Tron Legacy is still a favorite among film and electronic music fans, struck up in 2021. It’s a big blow for a project that has already had lots of speed bumps.
