Manchester United told 13 players to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window

Manchester United fans want to see a summer of change at Old Trafford after urging the club to part with 13 players when the transfer window opens.

It has been another season of disappointment for United as the first hopes of challenging the Premier League title were quickly shattered. They will also now end yet another campaign without lifting a piece of silverware, taking their trophy drought to five years.

The only achievement left for Ralf Rangnick to claim is to qualify for the Champions League, but even that looks more and more unlikely as Arsenal now take over the race by going four points ahead of United while still having a fight in hand. United are now down in sixth place, one point behind Tottenham and it will take a turn to stop fourth place in north London.

Major decisions have to be made in the summer as United look set to regroup and improve ahead of next season, with the most important thing being who will be hired to be the next permanent manager following Rangnick’s interim mission as manager. But improvements in the squad will also be high on the agenda.

United have already earmarked a new defensive midfielder as their top goal, and other areas such as striker, center-back and full-back could also be targeted. This is hardly surprising, as there have been so many underachievers this season and United supporters have not held back with their verdict on who should leave the club.

MEN Sports asked fans to review United’s squad and cast a vote on whether each player should be retained or allowed to leave, either due to their contract expiration or due to a transfer. A massive 13 players obtained a majority to be allowed to leave instead of staying at Old Trafford.

Players United fans want to leave this summer

Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Lee Grant can all take time off in the summer at the moment as their contracts are set to expire and fans believe all five should leave them. At the bottom of the table, where only 8.5 percent of voters want him to stay, is Anthony Martial. The Frenchman has made it clear that he wants to leave the club and he has done nothing during his stay at Sevilla in the last half of the season for the fans to want him to stay.

Next came Phil Jones at 10.7 percent, who may appear to be leaving after over a decade at the club to revive his career after finally recovering from a horrific run of injuries.

Defensive pair Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were also selected as players United should look to sell for the summer as they only got 26.7 per cent and 32.3 per cent of the votes respectively to stay. Both have struggled to live up to their exorbitant price tags since switching to United and have endured tough seasons.

Nemanja Matic, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Tahith Chong complete the list of players that fans want to sell for the summer, but perhaps even more interesting, the votes were split between Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford. Each had a sizeable share of 34.3 percent of voters who want them to go. Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams, Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton also only just avoided the ‘sell’ column by getting over 50 percent of the votes to retain.
