Over in New York, the Premier League hosted an event described as “an authentic match day experience” and plenty of US-based United fans were in attendance.
United’s official Twitter account shared photos of their fans enjoying themselves, wearing club colors in the form of shirts and scarves.
But then again, the penultimate picture completely sums up everything that is wrong with modern football. Two United fans happily pose for a picture with the Premier League trophy with sky blue ribbons.
United have won the same trophy a record 13 times since 1992, but their last triumph came in 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
And the fact that the trophy that the reigning champions City had was there for photo opportunities attracted serious attention online.
