Last pitch for Milwaukee to host RNC happening in DC

MILWAUKEE – Visit Milwaukee on Tuesday will land in Washington, DC to make its final pitch and try to secure the 2024 Republican National Congress for Brew City.

Fiserv Forum is one of the most important sites that will be used if the convention takes effect. At 11:15 a.m. Eastern Time, the delegation will have an hour to present their case, hoping to welcome nearly 45,000 visitors to the city and bring nearly $ 200 million into the local economy, according to estimates.

Milwaukee made its bid back in December last year, highlighting the city’s benefits of hosting the event – such as the close access to Lake Michigan, the entertainment options and the space offered by the Fiserv Forum and Wisconsin Center.

Visit Milwaukee’s CEO Peggy Williams-Smith says that while the chance to potentially secure the event is a really big thing because it will put Milwaukee on the world stage, she says she feels safe because it’s something her team does as an event. and visitor agency every single day.

Representatives from the mayor’s office, the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, the Wisconsin Center, the Fiserv Forum and the police department will join them Tuesday morning to meet with the selection committee. Williams-Smith says it will take 2 to 3 months to hear back on the decision and that the conference will start in the latter half of the summer of 2024.
