What to know
- Kitten baths take place on Saturday 26 March
- Fetal-themed “informal” events will be held at several local shelters and rescue centers with games, information sharing and more
- The Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles and other groups around the region are participating
If you’ve been to a christening or two, you know that the sweet contests that serve as the sweet center of the parties often involve guessing, counting, and easy activities, and the hilarious chance to share some smiles with friends and families.
But how can a play by a “kitten shower” be?
Do you have to count the small, pale beans that dot the underside of a kitten’s little paw? Guess how many whiskers a cat has on average? Or see how long you can follow the light from a laser pointer while it dances across the carpet?
There are definitely plenty of creative, cat-inspired games, but when it really comes down to it, a kitten bath is all about mating young felines with loving fetuses.
And as we are rapidly heading into the heartbreaking violence of the “kitten season,” it is now more important than ever to place little girls in caring foster families.
And do you help create the delicate connections? Local rescue teams and shelters, of course.
Several animal rescue operations will hold kitten baths on Saturday, March 26, with the goal of matching soft fur babies with super cute human friends, new friends who can foster these little cats during the busy kitten season.
The kitten season begins around May each year and ends in mid-autumn. That’s when “unsterilized female cats have most of their kittens,” shares the Best Friends Animal Society, and the time when human helpers are most needed, specifically people eager to raise a cat or two.
“With kitten season just around the corner, we’re asking nationwide to raise their hand to help,” said Julie Castle, CEO, Best Friends Animal Society.
Whether you want to post the ultimate sweetie on social media, need a daily dose of fun and stupidity, or just want to save lives and give a kitten a happy and healthy future, you can sign up to become a foster family today . “
The Best Friends Animal Society of Los Angeles, spcaLA, Los Angeles Animal Services and several regional rescue operations will host these “informal” showers, free events that will include “… games, refreshments and information on how to help save lives for this kitten season by fostering. “
This information will cover all aspects of caring for small cats, how feeding works, and what to expect when you enroll as a fetus.
These are personal events and there are several places in Los Angeles (and LA close by) to see on this page.
Want to host your own kitten bath or get involved, but you can? The details are here.
