WHY SEE? The beginning of the end of this season
The NHL trade deadline is over and senators can start looking toward the end of the season. With 20 games, we get a chance to look at winger Mathieu Joseph, who was acquired in the Nick Paul deal. Recalled from Belleville, this is a good chance for Michael Del Zotto to re-establish himself at this level. The line combinations will be interesting.

THREE THINGS ABOUT THE ISLANDS
The Senators have had a tough time with the Islanders lately. New York has an 8-1-0 record in its last nine games against Ottawa, and the Senators have lost four straight to the Islands. New York scored a 4-1 victory over the Senators with a two-point effort from Scott Mayfield on Feb. 1 at the UBS Arena. Ten players on the Isles list recorded points in that game.
There was speculation that former Senator defense attorney Zdeno Chara may be moved on Monday, but he remained in office. Chara, acquired in the deal that sent Alexei Yashin to the islands in 2001, spent four seasons with Ottawa. He recorded 51 goals and 146 points in 299 career games with the Senators. This will be Charas 1,660. NHL game.
The islands were not very active by the deadline. Instead of sending players to pack, the club signed strikers Cal Clutterbuck and Zach Parise for extra time. There was a feeling that both could be moved. Clutterbuck signed for two years for $ 1.75 million, while Parise accepted a $ 750,000 one-year deal. A couple of teams called for goalkeeper Semyon Varlamov.
