The long-awaited Evil Dead Rise, the latest film in the Evil Dead series, receives an R rating for “bloody violence and mutilation” before release.
The long-awaited Evil Dead Risethe latest movie in Evil death franchise, has received an R rating for “bloody violence and mutilation“prior to release. The latest sequel to the franchise will be written and directed by Lee Cronin, who was hand-picked by series creator Sam Raimi. Raimi and original Evil death The Bruce Campbell icon also acts as executive producer on Evil Dead Rise.
The fifth film in the overall film Evil death franchise, Evil Dead Rise once again revives the terror of the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis and Deadites that it produces. After sisters Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) and Beth (Lily Sullivan), Evil Dead Rise puts the couple and Ellie’s children in the claustrophobic nightmare of a Deadite siege on her cramped LA apartment block as the flesh-filled book is found in the depths of the building. Following Cronin’s announcement of the film’s image lock status, Evil Dead Rise has officially received an assessment of Raimi’s bloody franchise.
As reported by Comicbook.com, Evil Dead Rise was submitted to the Motion Picture Association and has since received an official review prior to release later this year. The MPA awarded the film an R rating, stating that the film contained “strong bloody horror and mutilation and some language.“The R rating brings Evil Dead Rise in line with other publications in Evil death franchise, som Evil Dead 2, Army of Darknessand Fede Alvarez’s 2013 Evil death restart each received an R rating for their bloody and bloody contents. The only deviation is Raimi’s original The evil deathwhich has instead had an NC-17 rating since its 1981 release.
Filmed in New Zealand throughout 2021, Evil Dead Rise promises to be a bolder, fresher entry into Evil death franchise despite having received a similar rating as previous installments, and differing from many parts of the film’s iconography. The restart in 2013 created a new continuity inspired by the original film by retelling the horrors of the cabin in the woods, with a short como by Campbell giving his approval. Opposite to, Evil Dead Rise moves beyond both the familiar surroundings of the cabin and the hero Ash Williams (Campbell), with whom other films and TV series have explored and expanded. Despite having neither Raimi director nor Campbell in the lead roles, the director and actor have taken on the role of executive producer on the production, with Campbell previously highlighting the family dynamics as a stark contrast from any Evil death story that came before.
With a new director and author managing the project, and a premise far removed from past stories, many fans may have wondered if Evil Dead Rise would maintain the series’ expected levels of mutilation and violence. The franchise differed from other films in the genre immediately from the original film, which at the time of release was considered a notorious splatter film and met with controversy and even bans in some areas. While no one else Evil death the film has surpassed the original assessment, the series has still preserved its bloody legacy with each entry, and Evil Dead Rise promises to continue the tradition when it comes out on HBO Max later in 2022.
