Driver arrested after standoff on railroad tracks – NBC Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies were involved in a fight with a driver on Friday afternoon after a chase that ended on the railroad tracks in Boyle Heights.

According to authorities, the LASD Airship was around noon. 14.25 over a stolen vehicle. A chase followed that began in the Norwalk area at 605 Freeway and went over to 5 Freeway.

The driver was driving the wrong way at one point, then crashed through a fence and onto the railroad tracks.

The SUV came to a standstill on the track and was deactivated, according to the LASD.

The driver then ran from the vehicle before his road was blocked by a moving freight train.

The man returned to the SUV, barricaded himself in, and placed a reflective strip of material, possibly a sunshade, in the windshield.

LASD Norwalk and East LA staff approached the vehicle under the command of LASD Airship, and the driver surrendered.

Authorities say he was remanded in custody without further incident.
