DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colorado (KDVR) – The Douglas County School Board voted to make Erin Kane the district’s next superintendent.
Kane was elected with a narrow 4-3 vote over Danny Windsor.
Kane is currently CEO of the American Academy Charter School. According to board members, Kane previously worked in the district as a temporary superintendent.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, some members praised Kane’s work in education and her handling of finances.
“I also see someone who respects the parental role and that relationship. It will honor the teachers, insist that parents treat teachers respectfully, but will also understand that the parent has the primary role, ”said Mike Peterson, DougCo School Board Director.
Others expressed concern that some teachers do not support Kane. One member claimed that Kane’s personal relationship with board members could be a problem.
“I wish Miss Kane would have revealed that she had previous relationships and worked with board members in the past. I think there will be trust issues that will plague the board a little bit,” said Susan Meek, DougCo school board director.
The move comes after the controversial firing of former superintendent Corey Wise in February.
