Collie couple charged with neglect after death of six-month-old baby boy in WA’s south west

A West Australian couple has been charged over the alleged neglect of a baby boy after the six-month-old died in hospital.

WA Police say the infant was admitted to Collie Hospital, in the state’s south west, on September 26 and was transferred to Perth Children’s Hospital due to his condition.

However, he could not be saved and died in hospital on Wednesday.

Police on Friday said a 32-year-old woman and 30-year-old man, both from Collie, have been charged with failing to protect a child from harm over the baby’s death.

The couple fronted Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, where the court was told the baby required medical treatment back in June but was only taken to hospital last week.

Exactly what the little boy needed was not revealed in court but police allege his parents kept it from him.

Neither applied for bail and both will remain in custody until they reappear in court next week.
