A police officer was lowered to grab the protester, who was then picked up by boat before being arrested.

“A 23-year-old man has been arrested by officers from the Eastern Beaches Police Area Command and taken to Maroubra police station,” police said in a statement.

Sirius Street was closed in both directions as a result of the protest.

“Significant traffic delays are being experienced and traffic diversions are in place around the airport and ports,” police said.

Truck drivers who had already picked up containers were stuck inside the terminal at Port Botany for hours, while other drivers were unable to fill their pick-up locations, causing widespread frustration.

“It was totally hard to get in there. I was supposed to be there at 8am for my seat, I’m not going to make it,” a truck driver told 9News.

The protest comes the day after another unauthorized demonstration in Port Botany saw a man get stuck on a pole.

“The man allegedly secured a ten-foot-long pole to the road and attached himself to the top of the pole using rope,” police said.

The man has since been charged with the incident.

He received conditional bail and will appear before the Waverley Local Court on April 20.
