Spain’s Padusa wins Sydney Tennis Championship

Paula Padusa of Spain will enter the Australian Open with more confidence after beating French Open champion Barbora Krichkova 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 in the final of Sydney in preparation for the first Grand Slam of the year.
Padusa, ranked ninth in the world, won the game after two hours and 22 minutes, and she also won the title at the Indian Wells Championships last year, beating Krichikova.
The Spaniard struck out 12 unanswered aces to win the third title of her career.
After the two players exchanged early breaks, Padusa won three games in a row and captured the first set 6-3.
In the second set, Krichkova broke Padusa’s server early, but the Spaniard equalized 3–3. But Krichikova took a break in the ninth game and strengthened the third set referee by winning the set.
Once again, the two players traded breaks in the deciding set, before Padusa took advantage of Krichkova’s mistake to win the game and the title.
“We all did our best today. It’s not easy to lose a game like this. It’s an honor to have Barbora developed as a player and to be able to play against him,” Padusa said after the win.
And next Monday at the Australian Open, Padusa will play Australia’s Ajla Tomaljanovic, while Krichikova will play Germany’s Andrea Petkovic.
