Latin America and the Caribbean region recorded a record infection rate of more than 300,000 cases per day between January 7 and 13, according to official census data.
And Argentina is the most affected country in the region, with approximately 140,000 injuries per day, in addition to an average of 96 daily deaths.
In a country of 45 million people, the epidemic has so far infected about 7 million people and killed more than 117,000.
The average daily number of new cases in Latin America is 304,000, which is almost double the previous record toll in the last wave of the region, when 155,000 daily injuries were recorded between May 28 and June 3, 2021.
It had increased by 126 percent in the previous week as compared to the previous seven days.
The death toll has also risen, although it has not reached the level of the previous wave.
The daily mortality rate between January 7 and 13 was 621, an increase of 44 percent over the previous seven days.
This is far from the record of more than 5,500 daily deaths between 6 and 12 April 2021.
