After months of construction, promoters confirmed on Thursday that Barry Hall and Sony Bill Williams would be coming to strike in the ring.
After months of speculation, the fighting has finally begun.
Footy stars-boxers Barry Hall and Sony Bill Williams will strike in a cross-code battle on March 23.
It will be in Sydney in which Williams seeks to extend his eight-fight unbeaten record against Hall, who he said was “not close to my class”.
Williams said: “For the first time in my career, I’m focusing on boxing.
“I know Barry Hall is a very tough guy and his debut proved that he has a ton of skills, but he is inexperienced in the ring and not close to my class level.
“This fight against Hull starts the last chapter of my playing career and I will win it and move on to more big fights in the next 24-36 months.”
Currently, who drew with Paul Galen in his last fight in 2019, Williams said he would not face “my size or skill”.
“I showed against Paul Galen that I could go farther and go harder,” Hall said.
“Sunny is a very talented person but he has never faced my size or skill. The boy has put everything on a silver plate in his boxing career till date.
“Sunny Boy has made a mistake in this fight. I want to end his boxing career and open up big fight opportunities for me.”
An all-black representative and a double NRL Premiership-winner, Williams is one of the two most experienced boxers.
He has won all eight of his professional bouts, most recently beating Waikato Falefehi by a unanimous decision last year.
Prior to that, Williams had not fought since 2015, but chose to spend the late 2010s focusing on his rugby union and league career.
Hall, who captained the Sydney Swans to the 2005 AFL Premiership, had previously fought professionally with Galen in that draw.
Despite his lack of experience, the four-time All-Australian earned a reputation as a tough guy in his AFL days.
He earned a seven-game suspension in the 2008 season between Sydney and the West Coast, notoriously punching Brent Stacker in the leg and knocking out the Eagles.
