Prolonged heavy rains have caused floods in eastern Brazil, killing at least 10 people in the state of Minas Gerais, officials say. According to the Brazilian Civil Defense, the floods in Minas Gerais have affected 220,000 people and left 6,000 homeless. The state’s deputy governor, Paulo Brant, blamed the river’s sedimentation and weak plans for flooding in a video statement on Instagram. The video, posted Tuesday, shows the Piranga River flowing into Ponte Nova, Minas Gerais. Heavy flooding has disrupted travel in the city and disrupted services. Local officials advised people to avoid the river. Credit: via @geanpaulaa Storyful
