The Confederation of African Football confirmed on Monday that three Algerian journalists covering the African Nations Cup in Cameroon had been stabbed in Douala and one of them had sustained minor injuries. The Algerian Football Federation has condemned the attack, saying it was “shocked by the incident”.
The Algerian Federation said in a statement that it “strongly condemns the cowardly attack on three Algerian journalists in Doula,” noting that “one of these journalists, who suffered minor injuries, was later transferred to a health site for treatment.”
The Algerian Federation has revealed that “a mobile phone and a passport have been stolen,” indicating that it was “surprised” by the incident.
Continental Union, meanwhile, confirmed that “three journalists have been stabbed by unknown individuals” and condemned “this cowardly act.”
Hosts Cameroon beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday and will continue until February 6.
