One person was killed in an accident on the Monaro Highway just south of the ACT border Friday afternoon. The accident happened north of Kelly Road, about 30 kilometers south of Tuggeranong. Traffic on the highway was blocked shortly after 2 p.m. Friday and motorists were advised to avoid the area. The accident allegedly involved a truck and two cars. Heavy vehicles cannot pass on the Monaro Highway, while light vehicles heading south are diverted to Old Cooma Road. All northbound traffic will be diverted at Michelago. There was also a minor collision on Monaro Highway in the ACT, between Shepard and Tralee Streets in Hume on Friday. No injuries were reported in the ACT collision, the territory police said. The Monaro Highway, the arterial road connecting the Snowy Mountains to the Federal Highway and used daily by thousands of Tuggeranong residents, has been voted Canberra’s worst black spot in three of the past four years.
