The European Medicines Agency (EMA) on Thursday approved the use of the Pfizer Covid vaccine in children between the ages of 5 and 11, marking the first time EU regulators have approved the Covid Job for use in young children.

Prior to the EMA’s decision, several countries had already instructed their national drug regulators to investigate giving Pfizer vaccine to children under the age of five. French Health Minister Olivier Veran has called on the country’s medical ethics committee to look into expanding the rollout, while Ireland’s Taoisech Michael Martin disagreed with the country’s advisory committee, saying the government was ready and waiting to vaccinate children.

The EMA’s decision came after Pfizer and Bioentech submitted a request to the EMA in September to extend the delivery of their mRNA pockets to young children after conducting a strong immune response study in children aged 5 to 11 years.

While some nations are awaiting EMA approval and their national regulator’s decision, Austria has already begun vaccinating young children amid a spike in cowardly cases that have forced the country back into national lockout.
