ABU DHABI, November 25 / WAM/ The third edition of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon starts tomorrow under the slogan “I run in Abu Dhabi”, with the participation of 12,000 male and female participants, including the world’s elite runners, as well as all segments of the society participating in the exceptional event organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and sponsored by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), according to the specified capacity of the event, which is held with precautions and preventive measures and the highest safety standards.
The marathon will be held for the third year in conjunction with the celebration of the country’s 50th national holiday, where the individual marathon over a distance of 42.2 km, and the double marathon – a relay of 42.2 km, and the People of Determination by bike race, kicks off at 5:45 a.m. in front of ADNOC’s headquarters on the Abu Dhabi Corniche. The elite runners are expected at 7:48 AM and the women will arrive at 8:05 AM, followed by the elite men’s and women’s crowning at 8:30 AM, then the associated community races begin, starting with the 10K community race , which starts at exactly 306am, while the 5km race starts at 9:15am, followed by 9:30am the 2.5km race.
The ADNOC Marathon course starts in front of the company headquarters “ADNOC” which directly overlooks the Founder’s Memorial, while the community race participants that accompany the event start their race from 18th Street, with distances: 2.5 km, 5 km and 10 kilometers. After the start line, all participants will cross the Corniche on a path that wraps around Qasr Al Hosn – one of the oldest and most beautiful historic stone buildings in the capital Abu Dhabi.
During the race, participants will pass the heritage village and flagpole in the breakwater area, then turn around the “Marina Mall” to reach King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street again in the direction of Qasr Al Hosn and then return to the finish line of the marathon on the Corniche Abu Dhabi in the events village in the south square of the ADNOC headquarters, while participants of other races finish the run on 18 street opposite the ADNOC reception center.
It is worth noting that the total prizes for the event will be $300,000 (1.1 million dirhams) across all categories. Cash prizes of $8,500 were awarded for the wheelchair category and $11,000 for the 10 km race category.
