Like the rest of us humans, Tom Brady eats one day a year: Thanksgiving.
Brady interviewed Oprah Winfrey this week on his SiriusXM show, “Let’s Go”. Look, she turned the interview around and asked how he eats during the holidays.
“Just like everyone else,” Brady said. “That’s the only meal where I’m like, ‘Screw it, let’s go for it.’ We can all enjoy it.”
These may be the only four hours a year that Brady lets loose with his consumption. He has famously talked about avoidance? caffeine, white flour, white sugar, dairy products, gluten and vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplant, peppers and mushrooms which can cause inflammation.
About 80 percent of his protein comes from plants as opposed to animals — the strangest manifestation of this was when he revealed he eats avocado ice cream.
The interview with Oprah may have been the first time Brady sounded like he was looking forward to retirement. He has consistently said he wants to play till he’s 45, but he is now 44 years old and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he continues to play next season in 2022 if he maintains a high level of play – his Tampa Bay Buccaneers defend Super Bowl champions, and right now Brady is the favorite in betting odds for NFL MVP this season.
However, he sounded wistful about spending vacations with his family and being given the opportunity to have that time after retirement appeals to him.
“Thanksgiving, there is much to be thankful for, but you only have four hours to enjoy it,” he said. “The training usually ends around 1 or 2. You eat around 2:30, then you get ready for the next day of practice. Same with Christmas.
“I’m looking forward to the time when I’m done playing football so I can have those more normal vacations that I grew up with that were important where the family is all together.”
