Ohio National Guard specialist missing, did not report to unit last month

The Ohio Army national guard asks for the public’s help in locating 26-year-old Spc. Michaela Nelson after she not reported back to her unit last month.

Nelson joined in September 2020 having just completed advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, south carolina, but failed to check in with her unit in Dayton last month for the final phase of her Recruit Sustainment Program, Ohio.

Her father, Lance Nelson, told Dayton’s WDTN TV that he last heard from his daughter in late October and the last person to see her was a friend who picked her up from the airport on October 1.

“I received my last text from her on Oct. 24 and her grandmother received the last text from her on Oct. 26,” Nelson told the local news station. “She’s great, she’s always making friends.”

Nelson was a four-year letter winner at Xenia Christian High School in southwest Ohio and walked track at Cedarville University.

“We hope she has been found safe,” an Ohio National Guard spokesman told Fox News.

Nelson’s family has reported missing persons to the Columbus Police Department. Anyone with information about her disappearance can contact CPD at 614-645-4545.
