Violent Night in Oakland – Murder, Gunfire at Sideshow, Pot Dispensary Shootout – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Even amid the wave of violence on the streets of Oakland, Saturday night seemed extreme and brought the city to the brink. A deadly shooting involving an officer, a 17-year-old shot, a gunfight at a cannabis dispensary and hundreds gathered at a wild sideshow.

By dawn, Oakland police found themselves trying to catch their breath as calm settled over the troubled city of East Bay.

Homicide detectives said a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot Saturday night in East Oakland. The teen was found with multiple gunshot wounds around 8:19 p.m. on the 3900 block of Carrington Street in the Fruitvale District.

His name was withheld pending notification from next of kin. Investigators said the teen was an Oakland resident and died of his injuries at the scene.

Other details were not immediately available.

The deadly shooting came hours after the deadly shooting that shot a suspect in the Rockridge neighborhood.

Investigators said the first call of a carjacking and robbery in an East Oakland neighborhood came in shortly before 3 p.m.

Officers later saw the vehicle in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland.

“When officers tried to contact the suspect, the suspect fired several shots at the officers,” Oakland Police Department PIO officer Kim Armstead said. “The suspect withdrew into the carjacked vehicle and fled.”

“Officers chased from a distance as the police helicopter followed overhead,” she continued. “The suspect drove into the 5900 block of Oceanview Drive, where the suspect began using the carjacked vehicle to ram into marked OPD patrol vehicles and uniformed OPD officers.”

“OPD officers have discharged their service weapons. The suspect was beaten and taken to the local hospital.”

The suspect later succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, later in the evening, there was a gunfight at an online marijuana dispensary.

Matthew Davis, a security guard at the company, said he would investigate suspicious noises in the building.

“Tonight they broke into one of the offices,” Davis said. “I heard movement in there, talking, so I came out and called our security. (Armed) Security came, police came right behind our security… On the way out I heard gunshots. Back and forth. Multiple shots. So I came to the gate and saw a man on the ground. The police told me to stay.”

Oakland detectives have not released any information about the shooting. Videotaped at the scene shows a shooting victim being loaded into an ambulance and at least two others arrested.

The violent night ended with a huge sideshow where gunshots erupted.

Hundreds of spectators gathered around 90th and MacArthur to watch vehicles spinning donuts at the intersection. At one point during the sideshow, spectators armed with guns fired their rifles into the air — over a hundred shots were heard.
