The Prime Minister of Australia announces new Consulate General in Bengaluru

Sydney [Australia]Describing Bengaluru as the world’s fastest growing technology hub, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Wednesday announced a new consulate in the Indian state of Karnataka.

“I am happy to tell you that Australia is also looking to set up a new Consulate General in Bengaluru,” Morrison told the Sydney Dialogue. “Bengaluru is the fastest growing technology hub in the world – of course we want to be a part of it. It is home to one third of India’s unicorn companies,” he added.

Morrison added that Australia’s new mission in Bangalore would expand its diplomatic presence in India to five posts. He also vowed to strengthen ties with India, adding that it would deepen ties with “India’s inventors, your technicians and entrepreneurs – as well as Indian governments at all levels.” Morrison said it signaled the country’s strong commitment to shaping the development and adoption of internationally important technologies by working with reliable partners such as India.

The Prime Minister of Australia said that India has a lot of work to do in the field of technology, adding that the two countries are already cooperating in cyber security, critical and emerging technology, critical minerals and digital economy.

“There’s a lot we can do with India in this area – some of which I’ve already covered, even as part of our quad partnership,” he said at the inaugural Sydney Dialogue on emerging, critical and cyber technologies.

He also informed the forum that he would be speaking at the Bangalore Tech Summit, India’s largest technology summit today. (ANI)
