Emergency services were called to the hotel complex on Whiteman Street after a two-year-old boy was found unresponsive in its pool at 10pm on Friday.
The child was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
On Saturday, a hospital spokesman said the baby’s condition was serious.
Police are investigating the incident. Crown is assisting in all investigations.
“The Crown is saddened to confirm this tragic event on our premises,” a statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and in their honor, no further comment will be made.”
