SACRAMENTO (CBS SF) — Superintendent of Public Schools Tony Thurmond announced Friday the formation of a committee to make recommendations to expand the availability of gender-neutral restrooms on California school campuses.
Thurmond will form a committee composed of students, school staff and key partners such as Equality California, who will brainstorm solutions to ensure schools have these facilities.
“We must give our students all the support they need, including access to bathrooms that they can safely use,” he said in a statement from his office. “I am inspired by the students who have worked on this issue and want to give students the opportunity to participate in finding the solutions.”
Thurmond asked state senator Connie Leyva, D-Chino, to co-chair the committee.
