TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) – Libya’s interim prime minister on Sunday called for a presidential candidate despite technical restrictions in the upcoming elections.
Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabeba will lead the country until a winner is declared after the national and presidential elections on December 24.
Libya’s current election law bans Dabeba from running in the election. He vowed not to run in the by-elections this year as a condition for taking over the caretaker government. To be eligible, he had to suspend himself from government service at least three months before the polling date, which he did not do.
