Paul Finished The Race For The Dead Stockholm Open

Andy Murray’s attempt to reach the semifinals of the Stockholm Open has been blocked by world number 52 Tommy Paul in a three-set fight.

Paul, a 24-year-old American, recovered from the fight in the second set and defeated the former world number 16-2, 3-6 6-3 in two hours and 15 minutes.

Murray had produced one of his best performances since undergoing hip surgery in early 2019 to defeat top-seeded genius Sinner in the previous round, but was unable to maintain his form.

Scott, 34, struggled with the weight and depth of Paul’s groundstroke as he lost the first set, losing the server twice in 45 minutes.

Paul, who defeated fifth seed Taylor Fritz in the second round, was at the top of his game and Murray was forced to work hard on his server to take a 2-1 lead in the second set.

At 2-2, the young man’s clean hitting was relentless, but two excellent trademark lobbies helped Murray to a 3-2 lead.

After Paul’s level dropped in the sixth game, Murray broke his 4-2 lead and got an extra reward for his patience.

In the next game, the Americans lost a crucial half-ball at 30-30 to make it 5-2, and Murray tied the game 6-3 in one hour and 37 minutes.

In the fourth game of the decisive, under dead server pressure, Paul lost a regular forehand volley for a break point and Scott drew 2-2.

Paul kept serving more comfortably after the forced confrontation was revealed, with Murray closing in on the decisive set 3-3, forcing Murray to call all his flexibility.

But in the 4–3 defeat, Murray made a double error – his first of the game – at the first break point of the set and 5-3 up, with Paul serving for the game to set the final four clash with the eighth. Preferred Indigenous Francis Tiafo.
