Police on the south coast are investigating the deaths of 14 kangaroos, including two joeys, which officers say were deliberately killed. Officers were called to the Long Beach area, in Batemans Bay, just after 7 a.m. Saturday. Along with WIRES personnel, they found five adult kangaroos and one Joey dead on Blairs Road and Sandy Place. “Police have since been notified of a further seven kangaroos and a joey has been found dead in the Maloneys Beach area,” the NSW Police Department said in a statement on Saturday night. “They have since been removed and initial investigation suggests they may have been deliberately murdered.” The police say they have already spoken to several witnesses, during which officers have examined camera images from the area. As part of the investigation, police are looking to identify the drivers of two white four-wheel drive utilities. These cars were seen in the Blairs Road and Sandy Place areas, off Long Beach, and Maloneys Drive and Hibiscus Close, off Maloneys Beach, between 10pm Friday and 12:30pm Saturday. All witnesses, CCTV residents or anyone with information to assist investigators are requested to contact Batemans Bay Police Station on (02) 4472 0099.
